I
am here today to discuss a matter that Texas Aggies and
Baylor Bears can agree upon this election day . . . we
must keep Justice Felipe Reyna on the 10th Court of Appeals.
The
10th Court of Appeals . . . which serves the people of
Bryan/College Station, Waco, and Texans living in a 16-county
region . . . is an important court that handles nearly
350 criminal and civil appeals each year.
As
governor, I always look to appoint the best and brightest
to our courts . . . man and women with the highest qualifications,
proven experience and the legal intellect to ensure justice
is always fair and always blind.
In
Felipe Reyna, Texans have a justice who brings to the table
all the necessary experience needed for the bench, plus
a compelling life story.
Justice
Reyna is the oldest of five children and not only was he
the first person in his family to graduate from high school
he was also the valedictorian of his class. He went on
to earn his bachelor's degree from Baylor University and
a Juris Doctorate Degree in Law from Baylor Law School.
Felipe
Reyna paid his way through law school by working as a janitor
at the 10th Court of Appeals. Now he is administering justice
from those same courthouse grounds.
From
janitor to Justice, Felipe Reyna has lived the American
Dream. He has over come humble roots with hard work and
determination, inspiring every Texan to dream big dreams.
And
I am not the only governor so impressed by Justice Reyna
that I felt compelled to appoint him to serve. In the early
1970's, Governor Briscoe Felipe Reyna to serve as the district
attorney for McLennan County. Governor Bush appointed him
to the State Board of Dental Examiners in 1995. And I was
proud to appoint Felipe Reyna as a justice on the 10th
Court of Appeals this past December.
Not
only is Felipe Reyna the bipartisan choice of both Democrat
and Republican governors, he is the overwhelming choice
of attorneys in the 16-county region who recently expressed
their opinion in the Bar Poll. Among the legal professionals
who know the candidates best, two out of every three chose
Justice Felipe Reyna.
Qualifications
matter and experience counts. Justice Felipe Reyna has
a lifetime of legal experience as a district attorney,
a private practitioner, and now as a justice of the court.
As a strong conservative, he understands it is his job
to interpret and enforce the law, not re-write it.
Justice
Reyna is the most experienced, qualified candidate who
will ensure justice is fair and balanced for all who enter
our court system.
On
March 9th , if Republican voters remember only four names,
they can't go wrong if they remember Bush, Carrillo, Green
and Reyna…Bush for President…Carrillo for the Texas Railroad
Commission…Green for the Texas Supreme Court…and Reyna
for the 10th Court of Appeals.
Thank
you.
